Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh crab meat, picked over for shells Use high-quality fresh crab for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust for spice level.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped Optional for added flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, beaten egg, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to combine, being careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
  • If using, fold in the chopped parsley for added flavor.
  • Form the mixture into patties, about 2 to 3 inches wide and 1 inch thick, yielding 8 to 10 patties depending on size.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or lightly coat it with oil.

Cooking

  • Place the crab cakes in a single layer in the basket without overcrowding, and cook in batches if necessary.
  • Cook the crab cakes for about 10 to 12 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the cakes from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve on their own or with dipping sauces like remoulade or tartar sauce. They can also be served over mixed greens or with a side of seasoned rice.
