Ingredients

For the Coating

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian-style or panko)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper

For Assembly

  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
  • Cooking spray (for air frying)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Set up your breading station: Place the flour in a shallow bowl, beat the eggs in another bowl, and mix the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in a third bowl.
  • Coat each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, and then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to help the breadcrumbs adhere.
  • For extra crunch, place the coated mozzarella sticks in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

Cooking

  • Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange the frozen mozzarella sticks in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch or overlap.
  • Spray the tops of the mozzarella sticks lightly with cooking spray.
  • Cook for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through until they are golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the mozzarella sticks from the air fryer and let them cool for a minute before serving.

Notes

Serve with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or spicy aioli for dipping. Pair with a light salad or veggie platter for a complete snack. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
