Ingredients
  

For the coating

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

For the onion rings

  • 2 large onions Sliced into thick rings
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk and vinegar/lemon juice

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Slice the onions into thick rings, about ½ inch thick, and carefully separate them.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • In a separate bowl, pour the buttermilk to soak the onion rings.

Coating

  • Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off.
  • Dredge the ring in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
  • Repeat the dipping into buttermilk and then into the breadcrumbs for a double coating.

Cooking

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Lightly spray the onion rings with cooking spray.
  • Cook for about 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the onion rings from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with dips like ketchup, ranch dressing, or spicy aioli. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge or freeze for longer storage.
