Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure it's leveled off for accuracy.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Make sure it's fresh for best results.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup milk Use whole or any preferred milk.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fat

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed Chill in the freezer for a few minutes if warm.

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1/2 cup dried fruit or chocolate chips Customize to your preference.

Preparation

  • Sift the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together in a large bowl.
  • Add the cubed butter and work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the milk and vanilla extract, then pour into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  • If desired, fold in the dried fruit or chocolate chips gently.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges.

Cooking

  • Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C).
  • Place the scone wedges in the air fryer basket, ensuring there's space for expansion. You may need to cook in batches.
  • Air fry the scones for 8 to 10 minutes, until golden brown and springy to the touch.
  • Remove from the air fryer and cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Serve with clotted cream, butter, or jam. For different flavors, experiment with citrus zest or herbs.
