  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract Higher quality almond extract recommended.
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour May replace some with almond flour for a nuttier flavor.
  • 1 cup ground almonds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • slivered almonds for topping
  • optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the almond extract to the mixture and blend well.
  • Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, ground almonds, and salt into the butter mixture. Mix until just combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and milk together, then add this to the cookie dough. Mix until well blended.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about two inches apart.
  • Gently press slivered almonds onto the top of each cookie for decoration.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • If you wish, dust the cooled cookies with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them for up to three months.
