Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 pound boudin sausage Remove casing before cooking.
  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough Can use puff pastry for a flakier texture.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Mix of your choice.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning Adjust to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For sautéing.
  • 1 egg beaten For egg wash.
  • Fresh parsley, chopped For garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until soft and translucent.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Remove the casing from the boudin sausage and crumble it into the skillet. Cook until heated through, mixing well with the vegetables.
  • Add the Cajun seasoning, mixing thoroughly. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

Assembly and Baking

  • Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread the cooled boudin sausage mixture evenly over the dough. Sprinkle cheese on top.
  • Roll the dough tightly starting from one of the long sides to form a log shape. Pinch the edges to seal.
  • Curve the log into a circle to form a ring and place it on a greased baking sheet.
  • Brush the top with the beaten egg for a shiny finish.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley. Let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pair with a side of tangy dipping sauce like remoulade or spicy mustard to enhance flavors. Consider adding pickled vegetables or a fresh salad as a delicious accompaniment.
