  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs Use room temperature eggs.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Measure flour correctly.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Dissolve in hot water to activate.
  • 2 teaspoons hot water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Fold in for a rich chocolate flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together softened unsalted butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, dissolve baking soda in hot water and mix with salt before adding to the batter.
  • Gradually add all-purpose flour and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips evenly into the dough.

Baking

  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking pans, with about two inches of space between them.
  • Bake for approximately 10 minutes, until edges are golden brown and centers are slightly undercooked.
  • Let cookies rest on pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking and store baked cookies in an airtight container.
