  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Optional for added flavor

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon water Add if needed to adjust consistency

Preparation

  • Rinse the cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or mushy berries.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and orange juice over medium heat.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring frequently.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until the cranberries begin to burst.
  • Stir in the orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, mixing well.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a tablespoon of water to reach your desired consistency.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.

Notes

This sauce can be prepared ahead of time for better flavor melding. Store in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze in airtight containers for longer storage.
