  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice Avoid bottled juice for authenticity

  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar For dusting

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a larger bowl, cream the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the large egg, vanilla extract, fresh orange zest, and fresh orange juice to the butter mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Use a spoon or cookie scoop to portion tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them well apart.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, until the edges turn golden brown but the centers appear soft.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Finishing Touch

  • Once cooled, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar before serving.
