Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warmed Ensure it's warm but not hot
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • Zest of 2 large oranges
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)

Glaze Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2-4 tablespoons orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the instant yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add the eggs, orange zest, and orange juice to the mixture. Mix well to combine.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. If too sticky, add more flour, a tablespoon at a time.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Rising

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Shaping

  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down. Roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread the softened butter evenly over the rolled-out dough. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over the butter.
  • Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  • Arrange the slices in a greased baking dish. Cover with a towel and let rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar with orange juice until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls after they come out of the oven.
