Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until the mixture becomes thick and pale in color, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Gently fold in the orange zest and vanilla extract into the egg mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the egg mixture, gently folding until just combined.
  • Slowly incorporate the melted butter and orange juice into the batter, folding gently.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Baking

  • Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve dusted with powdered sugar, or with whipped cream and fresh orange slices. Variations include adding poppy seeds or chocolate chips.
